Sometimes you paint something and it just really makes your heart sing. And painting this beautiful orchid inspired bottle was a pleasure from start to finish. The dark and smooth background of this Deinhart wine was the perfect base to work on. This is no ad, but I just loved the wine and wine bottle!
This was the first time I painted a more detailed design on a glass bottle. It has since then inspired me to create more of these florals.
Coming up with a design is always my favourite thing to do. And the painting process is a lot of fun and to watch how the design slowly comes to life.
The joy of sketching from life
Last year a sprig had snapped off from my orchid, which led to me having some beautiful orchids in a vase. That was a first for me and I really enjoyed it. But I couldn’t bring myself to deliberately cut blossoms off my plant, honestly.
Anyway, I of course had to take the opportunity to sketch from life. Because it is a perfect chance to hone my illustration skills and also honour the beauty of the orchid. It was kind of serendipitous in a way.
I am quite happy with the result. And have therefore also decided to turn the sketch into a fine art print. You can look at it below. And you can purchase it in my Etsy shop which you can find here.
What do you think of the sketch? And have you had orchids in a vase before?
